Microsoft Attempts To Seize Smartphone Market

Microsoft has updated its corporate branding for the first time in twenty five years, signalling a revamp of its entire marketing structure as it gears up for a series of big product launches.

In an attempt to accelerate the buzz for its up-and coming Windows 8 operating system and its first tablet computer “Surface” (identified to take on Apple’s unrivalled iPad), Microsoft is re-branding itself similar in the way Apple did during the previous decade. Windows Phone 8 is also in the pipeline to be released as Microsoft attempts to start seizing some of the smartphone market. Traditionally, Microsoft has lagged behind Google’s Android operating system and Apple’s iOS in terms of tabloid and smartphone software.

This massive shift in research and development for the tech giant directly correlates with the data and analysis SponsoredLinX, for months, been spruiking – that mobile search traffic will overtake traditional personal computer traffic by 2014 creating an urgency to get mobile websites and mobile-optimised AdWords campaigns online as soon as possible. The sooner an advertiser makes this vital investment, the cheaper the cost- per-click and the more mature the optimisation by the time 2014 rolls in. Speak with one of our Internet Marketing Specialist about establishing a mobile campaign and engaging the SponsoredLinX Web Department to build an online marketing-focused mobile website to get ahead of your competition.

If Microsoft, Apple and Google are all going to be directly competing against each other in the smartphone and tablet markets with software and hardware products, consumer behaviour will certainly shift towards more proactive use of the Internet and search engines on these products – to stay ahead we must continue to serve the majority of Internet users and evolve to meet their expectations and behaviour.
